muting's goals

During this summer, I think I improve a lot, before I think I can't wake up to school, but I wasn't late in school. I do all my homework and turn in on time. I think I will keep doing my homework and have a good grade on it, if I don't know how to do my homework, I should ask my teacher and get help. I think I also have to pay more attention to what the teacher say.

Math in China, by Muting

Do you want to know more about the math in ancient china? Let me tell you some, there's a lot a math that the ancient Chinese use, the scales, the abacus and even some of the numbers that the ancient Chinese use. Abacus is one of them, you think the calculator is more easy than an abacus, but when you learn it, it is easy. The abacus have the top and bottom, each circle on top represent 5, and each circle at the bottom represent 1, so at the bottom when you use the thumb move up 1 that means 1, but at the top, when you use the middle finger move down 1, that means 5. That's how the Chinese use the abacus for hundreds ago. The ancient Chinese also use the easy symbol to calculate the math, for example, they place the zero, in to space, so it is easy to remember like the picture that show. They also use the negative numbers, they use it at the last of the number and cross it out so it means negative.

muting's centroid

this are the pictures of centroid that i make with Janet in July 20, 2007. first we have to draw a scalene triangle on a patty paper, to draw a centroid we have to find out the medians and the midpoints, not the vertex, so we can find the centroid. then we copy it down on a cardboard and cut the triangle out. next we place the centroid on a pencil eraser tip and try to balance it. when we see it balance because of the center of gravity make it balance. next we place the centroid on the length of the pencil. this one we have to place it with the longer median, not the shorter median, but this one we have to use some of proportion because it is hard to balance.

fibonacci, by muting

Fibonacci numbers are a sequence where the first two terms are both 1. for example the n is the number of the term and the F(n) is the value of the term. the number of the term are1,2,3,4,5...........but the value of the term is different, like 1, 1, 1+1=2, 2+1=3, 3+2=5, 5+3=8.........this one is a little easy, but then the golden ratio is little harder, approximate the answer to 3 decimal places, this number is call the golden ratio. you can solve the rectangle of the proportion of width/length=length/length+width by using cross multiply, the using quadratic formula.

This is the picture of a tree stem, as you know, it's kind of the Fibonacci that you can find in the nature. each length and the width of the stem is different than the other tree stem and they also have the different proportion. as you know, the line of the stem have some different . some are up and some are down and you sometime can figure out the stem by using Fibonacci

the Numb3rs , by muting

the Numb3rs , by muting

we watch a movie call numb3rs on July 16. the movie is about a guy help F. B. I. and use geometry to find out why is the murder killed people.first,he construct a map and using computer,he used a formula like a triangle and the point of intersection, which is the circumcenter, when he use perpendicular bisector or he know that there have 3 victims and the middle point is the point of origin. Which is the close address to where the murder live and works, so he knows that the murder is close to where. Then he use the map and the address to find out the murder.

muting's tetrahedron

this is the one that our group made in July 13, our group members are jenny, Susan, and muting. we use a lot of group work. the tetrahedron is a regular, equilangular, and equilateral triangle. it is a poly hadron. there are many triangle and different triangle shape in this tetrahedron. it include centroid, othocenter, incenter and circumcenter. we can find it by using patty paper or paper, but this one is different, because we use straw and yarns to make it. it is fun^.^

muting's astrid

this is my Astrid that i drew on June, 28. i color it with different color, but when you look at the shape, it is like a rotational symmetry cause whenever you turn, the shape still look the same. it is also hard to make cause i use the compass and the straightedge to make it.

the hexagon and rotational symmetry

here are my pictures, the umbrella and the flower, they both are hexagon and have 6 sides. they also are the rotational symmetry because if u turn around the flower or umbrella, the shapes still look the same.
