Janet's Goals
During this summer, I think I improved alot. I have a goal for the new school year. I want to wake up early in the morning so I won't be late for school and pay attention in class, so I know how to do the work.

Janet's Calender in China



Did you know that China had a calender? The chinese calendar represents the longest unbroken sequence of time. Time measurement, recording, and prediction of events were the development of the calender and early math. The chinese calendar started around the year 2953 B.C. The chinese calendar is based on the lunar cycle and we still use it today. The chinese calender spread all the way to Japan and Korea. The chinese calender was considered a sacred document. The zodiac has twelve branches and is based on a 360 degree circle. The year is divided into 24 periods. There is also tweleve different animals in the chinese zodiac.

Janet's Centroid


Here are pictures of the centroids that I made with Muting. The centroid balanced on the centroid and the median. Centroid is considered the center of gravity because it will balance and it will not fall. We had to line up the midpoint and the vertix to see if it will balance on the length of the pencil. We had to balance the pencil on the longer median, and not the shorter one. When we had to balance the median on the length of the pencil, we had to use proportion because it was hard to balance it.

Janet's Fibonacci Numbers



Fibonacci numbers are the sequence where the first two terms are both one. In a fibonacci equation, n is the number of term, and F(n) is the value of term. To find the Golden ratio, you need to use proportion and the quadratic formula. Proportion is two ratios that are equal to each other. You also need to cross multiply to find the golden ratio. It is very easy to use fibonacci numbers, but the golden ratio is harder. The pinecone above is an example of fibonacci that is part of nature. It shows the fibonacci spirals very clearly. There are two different sets in this pinecone. All of the spirals connect to the top part of the pinecone, which is the stalk where it connects to the tree.
The seedhead above is another example of fibonacci that can be found in nature. The seedhead is called a coneflower seedhead. The seedhead has many colors on it. You can see the spirals that are coming out of the middle of the seedhead. The spiral starts in the middle and you can see it coming out. if you are looking at the seedhead from far away, you can see 55 spirals, But if you look at it in a closer view, you will see 34 spirals.
The starfish above is another example of a fibonacci that can be found in nature. Do you know why starfish is an example of fibonacci? Because a starfish has five arms and five is the 5th fibonacci number.If you draw a pentagon and put diagonals in it, you will get a star, and a star is the same a a starfish. The sides of the pentagon are one unit in length, the ratio between the diagonals and the sides is the golden ratio. The five-point symmetry with Golden proportions is found in starfish.

Janet's Numb3rs Activity 1
We watched a show called Numb3rs. It is about a FBI that is looking for a rapist. His brother, whose name is Charlie, helped him find the rapist. He found the rapist using trigonometry, computers, and geometry. Charlie tried to find where the rapist worked and lived. He also found out that the rapist would go to different targets. The victims were placed in different places in the triangle and the rapist was in the point of origin. The point of origin is the same place as the circumcenter. Charlie constructed a map of where the rapist could live. He found a spot that the rapist can be. At the end, Charlie's calculations were right about where the rapist lived.
Janet's Tetrahedron

This is a picture of my Tetrahedron. My partner and I made this tetrahedron on July, 13th. We used many straws for it. The straws were three different sizes. We also used three different colors of yarn to make the tetrahedron. There are many triangles in the tetrahedron. They were regular triangles. The triangles are equilateral and equiangular. The tetrahedron is also a polyhedron because it is three dimensional. Inside the tetrahedron, there is centroid, orthocenter, incenter, and circumcenter.It is in the middle where all the straws connect. We connected the straws together to make the tetrahedron concurrent. My partner and I connected the straws on the top and made it inverse.

Janet's Hexagon and Reflectional Symmetry


Here is a picture of a basket. This basket is an example of a hexagon. The diamonds that are on the basket make a hexagon when you put them together.
Here is a picture of a leaf. The leaf is an example of a reflectional symmetry. If you draw a line through the leaf, it will be the same on both sides.
